How One Word Can Shape Your Faith – Christian Writing Prompts for Growth
I spent a weekend morning paging through my “Musings and Fusing’s” book, revisiting some of my responses to guided writing exercises. It reminded me how powerful Christian writing prompts can be in helping us slow down, reflect, and notice God’s work in our lives.
One particular prompt stood out:
Use one word that describes how you’ve grown in the past year. Write a tribute to this word.”
I didn’t edit or overthink—just let my heart answer.
My word was ALLOW.

My One-Word Tribute
ALLOW.
What have I allowed?
Who have I allowed?
How has the world’s noise allowed me to become deaf?
I’ve gotten lost in the space of my head.
I seek to find a space of peace.
Have I allowed inner evolution or self-devolution?
Allow me to remember.
Allow myself to be found.
With new eyes, without disguise.
What will I allow?
Who will I allow?
Allow Creator to creatively transform my heart.
Fast from the past; speed toward the future.
Why Christian Writing Prompts Work
This simple exercise reminded me that writing isn’t just about recording life events—it’s a way to pray, to listen, and to invite God’s truth deeper into my daily thoughts. Christian writing prompts help me:
- Notice what God is teaching me in different seasons
- Process feelings I didn’t know were there
- Set intentions for how I want to live and love
Reader’s turn:
What’s one word that describes how you have grown in the past year?
Write your own tribute to it. You may be surprised by what the Holy Spirit reveals.
Prompted by literary spirit,
Christina
