WISDOM VIA CHOCOLATE

My close friends gathered for our annual Chocolate Chat. We bring something infused with chocolate and enjoy animated discussions about which word we chose that year as a springboard for inner development.

Thanks to my friends who allowed me to print pieces of their insight from our 2024-2025 Chocolate Chat:

FOCUS: “I need clarity. The best way I can explain this is to picture cutting a thick steak. It’s easier and quicker to choose one sharp knife instead of a dozen butter knives. I’ll focus on doing one sharp thing rather than juggling a dozen dull things.”

ALLOW: “I plan to filter all thoughts, decisions, and conversations with an “and” mindset rather than “either/or.” I want to be less bottlenecked into ‘my way or the highway.’ I need to consider other scenic ways.”

LISTEN: “Sometimes, I swear my inner phone is set on mute. I need to turn up my internal volume so I can hear God’s voice above the world’s buzz. I got too much chatter goin’ on in my head and have a hard time listening and concentrating.”

MEDITATE: “I crave stillness. My meditation becomes God’s medication when I claim peace. I want to release myself from constant stimuli.”

GENEROSITY: “I’m not super stingy, but I’m not overly generous. This year, I’m going to give more and learn to graciously receive more. It’s hard to accept that people want to give, simply out of love. I worry that people give out of obligation and feel guilty if I’m unable to reciprocate. This year, I’m going to generously give and accept, no matter what.

CONSISTENCY: “I’m going to do a better job of aligning my actions with my words. Sometimes I stop and ask myself, “Hey, wait a minute! Would I act or say that in heaven?” If not, why in the heck am I saying or doing that on earth?” I need to consistently show up when I say I will…and to be consistently on time!” (our running joke is when we ask this friend to meet, we remind her which time zone we’re referring to when we schedule the activity). 😉

HUMILITY: “I chose humility because I struggle with deciphering my motive. I’m guilty of doing something with secret hopes to be acknowledged for good work. I need to break out of that “exceed another quota” mentality. Why do I think should outdo someone or reach some unseen algo rhythm number? That’s humbling to admit!”

It was a rich discussion and there’s much more exchanged wisdom to share. To respect my 500-word count limit, I am sending you with these insightful bite-sized pieces.

Reader! Your turn!

If you chose a word of the year (or a word for today), what is it and what progress have you made?

Kindly, leave your wisdom so we can learn from each other.
