Missed the Boat: Faith Poetry About Divine Timing

This piece of faith poetry explores the universal feeling of missed opportunities and finding hope in God’s perfect timing.

I received several responses from my FROG Blog post, “Christian Writing Prompts for Growth.” A reader encouraged me to share another answer from my “Musings and Fusings” writing prompt book.

This one comes from, “Write a free verse that includes the idiom: miss the boat.”

Golden sunset reflecting on ocean waves at beach shore, symbolizing hope and divine timing in Christian poetry

Have I missed the boat?

Will my ship come in?

Would I know my ship if I saw it?

Sometimes I question if I’ve missed the boat,

At times, I feel tossed upon the rocks.

Sharp edges, sand in my britches.

Dry. Parched.

Gulping. Casting lures. Casting nets.

Wading. Waiting.

When I feel like jumping ship,

I remember my Life Preserver.

He won’t let me miss His boat.

In His protective harbor,

Christina
