A Christian Guide to Overcoming Problems

I Love Problems!

Norman Vincent Peale said, “When I see a problem coming down the road, I’ve learned to holler, ‘Hello problem! Where have you been? I’ve been training for you and now we meet again!’”

In Other Words
Problems don’t have to define you. When you greet challenges with faith and gratitude, you step into God’s peace, no matter the storm.

I appreciate his fun optimism in a cloud of our world’s trending pessimism. I believe gratitude brings contentment, so I strive to fill my Thank Tank.

Why Christians Can Embrace Problems with Optimism

One way I invite power over problems is to say thanks for all life’s freebies. Smell, touch, countless muscles and bones. I don’t get charged for eyesight, hearing, brain function, a working pancreas, spleen, or any other organ.

God doesn’t increase my taxes when I think I’ve exceeded prayer requests. He doesn’t have a maxed-out limit on apologies for harsh words and misguided actions. He doesn’t charge admission to watch unlimited moon rises, sun sets, or backyard animal shows.

Do I have problems? Yes! Do I wish we could eliminate life’s speed bumps? Absolutely! However, when I approach these hiccups and pains as Dr. Peale said, I can echo his wisdom:

“Hello problem! Where have you been? I’ve been training for you and now we meet again!”

Faith-Based Strategies for Overcoming Problems

What unique approach do you use or have heard to face hurdles?
How does this benefit you? How could optimism benefit others?

“I’ve said this so that my peace will be with you. In the world, you’ll have trouble. But cheer up! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Faith-Based Strategy for Overcoming Problems

  • Say “Hello, problem!” out loud. Naming the problem disarms it and reminds you that you’ve been training for this moment.

Spreading sunshine, one smile at a time,
