MARINE IN SPIRIT

“Beyond the call of duty. Beneath the surface of fear”

“Value of honor, courage, commitment”

“First to fight. Last to surrender”

“United by courage. Forged by commitment.”

“Earned, never given.”

The Marine corps founded their mission around these core values.

My brother served in the Marine Corps during Somalia in the 90’s. I admire how he honored his commitment and see how the Marine’s principles resemble how Jesus lived. He went beyond the call of duty. He faced treacherous conditions, beneath the human element of fear.

Jesus was the first to fight for the needy. He surrendered his life for the greedy. A Marine’s badges are earned, never given. Jesus’s banner of forgiveness and grace is freely given. We cannot earn, or work for, His sacrificial medal.

Jesus was deployed from his heavenly comforts to the war zones of earth. As a solider, he took the nails and shrapnel for our souls. Even though the cruelties of mortal combat killed him, he didn’t bow to PTSD. He chose to resurrect from the grave and continues to fight against evil.

I don’t anticipate my death to involve crucifixion, but I do want my life to resemble what Jesus, and our military provide. Love, courage, commitment, honor. Only Jesus can save our soul. I want to share my best life with him and his mission.

United by courage. Forged by commitment,

Christina
